Along with your career stage, whether or not you are currently working for a CSS employer member - or worked for a participating CSS co-operative or credit union in the past - can also affect the options available for your pension funds.*

Inactive member

An inactive member holds funds in a CSS Pension Plan account but no longer works for a participating employer or makes pension contributions. While many useful resources for you would be linked to your career stage (see above career stages), you also have the option to transfer in any RRSPs that you may already have or might contribute to in the future.

Active member

An active member is currently employed with a participating CSS employer member and actively makes pension contributions each pay period. While many useful resources for you would be linked to your career stage (see above career stages), you also have the option to make additional voluntary contributions (AVCs) to your pension account.
