Programmer


General description

Established in 1939, the CSS Pension Plan (the Plan) supplies retirement products and services to co-operatives and credit unions across Canada through a member-owned, non-profit pension society. With over $4B under administration and more than 46,000 members, the Plan is one of Canada’s largest defined-contribution pension plans.

Reporting to the ICT Manager, the programmer is a junior position, primarily responsible for developing and testing changes to the Plan’s custom software and website. The IT team will be working in an agile development environment, using VB.NET and SharePoint. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Developing, maintaining and testing changes to the Plan’s custom software, databases and website.
  • Documenting custom software which includes, but is not limited to: user manuals, maintenance manuals, associated design documents and test cases.
  • Providing help desk support for the Plan’s custom software users and website users.
  • Performing administration tasks such as entering/billing project time, updating ticket reporting system, attending meetings and providing status reports.
  • Providing IT training for the Plan’s staff.
  • Following the Plan’s policies and procedures for HR, IT, purchasing, etc. 
  • Recommending a suitable continuing education program for him or herself, adequate to keep pace with ongoing change and developments in IT.
  • Other duties as assigned by the ICT Manager or Executive Director.


Qualifications

  • A technology-related degree or diploma from a recognized institution, plus one year of experience.
  • Experience with the following would be considered an asset:
    • .NET, Visual Studio, SharePoint, Team Foundation Sever
    • SharePoint
    • Web development tools such as JQuery
    • Experience writing programs that access databases, or writing database queries. Microsoft SQL Server is preferred but not essential.
    • Crystal Reports
  • Ability to troubleshoot existing code, system and hardware environments.
  • Good communications and interpersonal skills; must be able to be part of a team.
  • Experience developing requirements, writing use cases and/or test cases.
