Programmer Analyst


General description

Established in 1939, the CSS Pension Plan (the Plan) supplies retirement products and services to co-operatives and credit unions across Canada through a member-owned, non-profit pension society. With over $3B under administration and more than 41,000 members, the Plan is one of Canada’s largest defined-contribution pension plans.

Reporting to the ICT Manager, the Programmer is primarily responsible for developing and testing changes to the Plan’s custom software and website. The IT team will be working in an agile development environment, using VB.NET and SharePoint.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Working as part of a team to develop, maintain, test, and document changes to the Plan’s custom software, databases and website.
  • Providing help desk support for the Plan’s custom software users and website users.
  • Documenting custom software which includes, but is not limited to: user manuals, maintenance manuals, associated design documents, and test cases.
  • Providing assistance to other IT staff as needed.
  • Assisting with aspects of security related to programming and data security.
  • Performing administration tasks such as entering/billing project time, updating ticket reporting system, attending meetings and providing status reports.
  • Assisting the IT Manager in establishing timelines by estimating required development time and by communicating progress and delays.
  • Providing IT training for the Plan’s staff.
  • Recommending a suitable continuing education program for him or herself, adequate to keep pace with ongoing change and developments in IT.
  • Other duties as assigned by the IT Manager or Executive Director.


Qualifications

  • A technology-related degree or diploma from a recognized institution, plus three years of experience.
  • Demonstrated programming experience with .NET and SharePoint development; experience with web development tools such as JQuery. 
  • Experience administering SharePoint configurations and servers would be an asset. 
  • Experience writing programs that access databases and writing database queries and reports. Experience with Microsoft SQL Server is preferred. Experience with Crystal Reports would be considered an asset. 
  • Experience with Team Foundation Server.
  • Ability to troubleshoot existing code, system and hardware environments.
  • Good communications and interpersonal skills; must be able to be part of a team.
  • Experience developing requirements, writing use cases and/or test cases.
  • Experience with pension or financial systems will be considered an asset.
