Employer survey results

The CSS Pension Plan surveyed employer members of the Plan between Oct. 31 and Nov. 29, 2019. During that timeframe, we received 103 total responses. The survey was primarily geared toward senior leaders who oversee their organization’s membership in the CSS Pension Plan.

Employer responses largely echo those received from the 2019 active employee member survey. Results show that we have a strong reputation through the eyes of employers; employers also highly value our in-plan retirement income options, status as a low-cost provider of retirement benefits, and co-operative governance structure.

Employer comments also point to a need for more awareness, information and/or sessions about the CSS Pension Plan geared toward younger members, which could potentially help retain a growing workforce of Millennial and Generation Z employees. Similarly, employers would like to see more digital information delivery and online self-serve tools to enhance the efficiency of administering Plan benefits.

Findings show that a high proportion of employers also feel it is important that their organizations have a voice in CSS governance decisions; however, more awareness may be needed to inform employers about how various aspects of the CSS governance process work.
